7.22.10 There are some new developments on the horizon for rexgregory.com, and the whole team here would like to let you know about them. First of all is the pledge on behalf of the webmasters here that there will soon be video content on the site! A friend of mine filmed good chunks of the Release Party last month on a rig that made him somewhat resemble a cyborg. Translation: rest assured that the video is of the highest quality and the sound is also of a higher grade. There are some upcoming gigs that deserve a little more than just a cursory mention in the 'gigs' section, and here they are. I'm playing a trio performance at a BRAND SPANKING NEW place in the CBD in New Orleans called the '12 Bar' on Friday the 13th in August (2010 of course). Now I want to make special mention of this because here in New Orleans, we are at somewhat of a crossroads in the music scene. There is a lot of special musicians in the city right now creating special music, a lot of talent that needs new outlets. Frenchman street, notwithstanding being the eminent 'hang' in the city, is rapidly diminishing in its ability to serve as an outlet for the most creative and most bohemian / open-minded aspects of the New Orleans music scene. 12 Bar is a new place, located at the dead end of Fulton St. close to Poydras (a hop skip and a jump away from the Convention Center and Poydras intersection). They have a very attractive lounge area in the front room, and on the right side right by the entrance is admission to another room that is a full-on performance presentation space fully equipped with lights, sound equipment, bar, etc. We need to actively start creating new vibes around the city and actively support this fledgling scene. I encourage musicians to investigate this new spot and see if you see what I see. I also encourage musicians to start trying to find new spots to create something special, something untrampled upon, something fresh and new and EXCITING! What I'm saying is that when an opportunity like this comes around (a new spot, new owners of old spots, etc) we need to jump on them and show support and show the business aspect that this new energy can work in a club and won't diminish to the point of obscurity. Otherwise these small windows revert to the same old business models (juke juke juke) and we lose ground. *steps off of soapbox* So the other performance of note is on the 17th of August (again, 2010) in which I will be performing at the Open Ears Series. This performance will be broadcast on WWOZ for everybody to hear! Isn't that exciting? If you are out of the city, go to WWOZ.org and they'll hook you up with a place to stream it instantly. There is also a WWOZ app for iPhones, iPods, iPads, etc... Viva la nueva musica! -Rex |
6.18.10 The other day, we, the webmasters here at rexgregory.com, finally succeeded after many days of contact with our technical support teams in putting up the music that is on the record on the homepage. For the first time in rexgregory.com's history, music has been added to the site. The next project will be to get the CDs over to CD Baby to make the record available on iTunes and CD Baby and Amazon. This will happen within the next week or two... Last night's CD Release was a complete success, thank you to everyone who was in attendance! The word people are using here at the rexgregory.com team with the advent of all these recent, positive changes is "excited". I hope you are too! -Rex

6.13.10 Yet another revamp of rexgregory.com tonight. I am even more proud of this creation than all of the other ones due to the fact that this one is slick and sleek and means business. It's also a proud moment for me because I actually have a recording that I can put on the website for listening pleasure. Though the recordings are not currently up (investigating the best way to get a flash player onto the website... technical difficulties) there is the promise of the website actually having CONTENT which is exciting for me, the amateur web designer musician. Soon the CD will be available on iTunes and CD Baby. I'll probably put the liner notes from the record online for viewing, along with bonus information about each song (possibly some scores or charts...) in a bonus section I'll make available in the next coming days / weeks. As is standard on a new rexgregory.com launch, I'm beat dead and need to rush to sleep. Good morrow everyone, keep checking back for the record, it will come, I promise... -Rex |
